Our weekly exercise class

One of the things that helps our resident to keep track of the day of the week is that most of our ‘big’ activities happen on the same day every week. This is the weekly exercise club at the Cottage today.

I just love this photo!

It’s a puzzle

A few years ago we looked around for age-appropriate puzzles for people with dementia and we could not find any – so we had these made. They are great for people at the later stages of dementia with larger pieces and bold colourful images. These pictures were taken in the Lodge today.

Setting the table and washing the dishes

Such a simple thing, setting the table for others to enjoy their meal, and doing the dishes after the meal.  Yet these actions can be deeply meaningful for someone who has spent their life looking after their family and friends in a thousand different ways. It can express so many feelings like gratitude, friendship, love, and being of service. Of course we don’t know the feelings associated with people’s actions but it is clear from the concentration and precision that these can be deeply meaningful actions. The fact that it keeps you fit is a good side-effect.
