An impromptu trip to the beach

At Orcombe point

In the Rosemobile

At the River Otter Estuary

The plan was to have a cup of coffee at Trinity Church. However our ladies decided they would like to go to the beach at Exmouth and Budleigh! In dementia care one has to be flexible and go with the flow sometimes….

The trip triggered nice memories of a happy childhood spent in Budleigh Salterton for one of the ladies, and they both came back very animated and happy. We are very fortunate to live on the doorstep of so much beautiful countryside here.

The smiling gentleman is Phil, our maintenance man and de-facto Rosemobile driver. Alice, our activities coordinator, took the pictures.

Now that he weather is improving we’ll make this a weekly fixture in our activities programme.

Our Events programme for 2011

It looks like we’ll have a pretty packed year this year. Many of these are favourites from last year. We are particularly excited about a couple of new events this year. One is a drama performance by residents at the Blackmore theatre in March (drama practice is every Monday from 2 pm to 3 pm and family and friends are encouraged to participate!), the Easter sponsored walk by staff and residents, and the landshare project with the Beacon School where pupils will be growing (and eating!) vegetables with our residents throughout the year, with a ‘big push’ in the week of 4 to 7 April.

Jackie Pool Associates rates Rose Lodge care ‘good’

In December we engaged a consultant from Jackie Pool Associates who are experts in person-centred and dementia care consulting and training. They rated our care practice as ‘good’ and over the next year they will provide extensive training and support to help us elevate our care practice to ‘excellent’.

They have also evaluated the physical environment at Rose Lodge and over the next year we will be making a number of changes to creat a more therapeutic environment.
