Living fully in the present

Coming into my office I found this note” Rene Scaillet found these keys in the garden. Are they yours ?”

As it turned out I had indeed left my keys in the garden when I fed the doves earlier today.

Residents never cease to amaze me. In this case, not just the sequence of thought processes that Rene undertook to retrieve my keys and write the note, but the sense of consideration and responsibility that motivated him to return my keys.

When I thanked him half an hour later, he could not remember doing it.

It showed me once again that we should support people with dementia to live fully in the present, and not stress them unnecessarily with the past or the future.
