Visit Rose Lodge

Here come the boys!

It was delightful to see one of our male respite residents move into Rose Lodge today. While still in the minority we do seem to have more men joining us now. I have been puzzled as to why this should be so until it dawned that most of these gentlemen had until recently been cared for by their spouses. I think what may be happening is that we are now admitting people in the earlier stages of dementia as people in East Devon become aware of the kind of environment that we provide at Rose Lodge.

Whatever the reasons, it is fantastic to have a more balanced resident community and of course it is great for those men who prefer male company.

Of course with surviving spouses this also means that residents are generally better supported by their families (children often live further away) and this helps to further enrich the environment. All in all it’s a very good thing!
