Why Rose Lodge is different

It is really important when you decide to live at a care home, that the care homes suits your lifestyle, interests, and preferences. To help you consider if Rose Lodge Lodge is right for you, this is how Rose Lodge is different from other local homes:

Crisps anyone ?

We provide specialist dementia care, and we treat residents as individuals and our over-riding philosophy is to ’see the person first – the dementia second’ In Spring of 2010 we provided 4-days of in-depth dementia care training to our staff, and we continue to train staff in dementia care on a regular basis.

We are an active and social home with an extensive activities programme which includes different occupational and relaxing activities, both in small groups and individually. Many residents think of Rose Lodge as a ‘great social club where you can stay the night’. We encourage our residents to mix and engage with each other, and most of our residents do so, with only one or two residents choosing to stay mostly in their room.

Gardening club

We have extensive gardens which residents are encouraged to use for relaxation and for occupational activities such as picking flowers and growing vegetables, and we are the only dementia home in Exmouth that is so fortunate.

Some of our Christmas angels

We recruit staff from the local area. While more expensive than shipping staff in from far away places, we believe that local staff (regardless of race or nationality) bring significant advantages to our resident in areas of communications and cultural understanding. Many people with dementia find it difficult to communicate and staff need to compensate for this by having good communication skills themselves. Also we believe that local staff will naturally have a better understanding and empathy of the social and cultural background of our residents.

Our 2010 garden party

We are actively engaged with the wider community, organising various events that help to make our residents feel part of the wider community. In 2010 this included a

garden party, a portrait exhibition, a photo exhibition, and trips to the local theatre and other outings, and coffee mornings at local churches and community organisations. in 2011 we are adding to this with a drama performance by residents at the Blackmore Theatre, a landshare project with the Beacon School, and a sponsored Easter run by residents and staff. Please see our 2011 events programme for further details.

We offer day care, respite and long term care and if you think Rose Lodge is right for you, then please call the Manager Karen Bousher on 01395 2270171 to arrange a visit to Rose Lodge.
